Dawson's Weird Factoid: Dawson made a comment in The Dance where he asked Joey why talking about dance as a foreplay was the first mention they'd made of sex in their boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. This was untrue, the first mention was in The Kiss, when Joey talked about the motel and "going at it like porn stars".
You Send Me Flying
"Why do I not feel okay about this?" Joey bit her lip nervously the next day, standing with Dawson in front of his house. He glanced over at her pale face, eyes wide with nervousness. He tucked her hand in his and nodded toward the door.
"We should, ah, go in, don't you think?" Joey turned to look him in the face.
"No, no. This is a bad idea. This is a very bad idea. Telling your mom and dad, who by the way, no offense, can hardly stand to be in the same room together anymore, that I am pregnant, it just cannot be a good idea. There must be better ideas--"
"Jo, it's going to be okay. I promise. It will." Dawson glanced up at the house. He lifted his eyebrows. "Maybe they'll be so busy hating each other that they don't notice that were sixteen and pregnant.." Joey looked into his dark eyes.
"Dawson-" she said softly. He turned.
"It's okay. Let's deal with the problem at hand." He marched forward, jaw set with determination.
"Great," thought Joey. "Now we're on a mission."

"Mom...Dad?.." Dawson called out as he opened the door to his house. A now unusual sight beheld him, both his parents sitting together in the living room. Gail and Mitch Leery turned toward their son, seeing him holding his girlfriends hand, Gail gave a deep sigh, and sat back against the couch.
"You called us Dawson and said you and Joey need to speak seriously with us both together? What's this all about?" Mitch said, showing where his son recieved his oblivious nature.
"Oh, Mitch. Isn't it obvious?" Gail raised her voice and stood up in front of him. She glanced toward the couple, who seemed to be inspecting the shag rug. "Joey's pregnant. Isn't that right, Dawson?" Both Dawson and Joey remained silent, not sure how to say yes.
"Is that true, son?" Mitch looked in bewilderment at his son. Dawson swallowed hard.
"Yes. Joey is pregnant." He gripped her hand harder. There was complete silence in the room for a few moments until Gail exploded.
"See, now were really in trouble here Mitch!? This is all your fault, you know that, don't you?"
"MY fault, my fault! How can it be my fault. He LIVES with you, you're the one around!"
"Exactly, he should have his father around!"
"Well, why don't you just have BOB talk to him, man to man?!!!"
Dawson and Joey stood through all of this in silence. Finally Dawson cleared his throat.
"Were going to have the baby."
"The hell you are!" Said Gail.
"We are mom." Dawson said firmly, finally looking up.
"Right. And how does Joey plan to continue school?
And how will she get through the small town gossip?
And do you plan to keep this child after it's born..because I'm sorry, Dawson, you are not ready to be a father. Your much too selfish."
Dawson stood and took the reprimanding. He knew he deserved it.
Mitch finally spoke up. "Are you even sure this is your child Dawson?"
Joey finally looked into the faces of the two people she had considered her parents for the past four years. Her eyes brimming with tears, she glanced back from Gail, who seemed to now be examining her manicured nails, to Mitch, who seemed to just be shocked. She then looked over to her boyfriend, her lover, to Dawson who stood open mouthed, staring at his father. Joey gasped and covered her mouth, the tears spilling over. "Excuse me, I'm going to be sick," she mumbled, running out of the room. Dawson started, to run after her, but Gail held up her hand.
"I'll go," she said quietly. She walked out of the room, leaving her son to stare down his father.

"How could you say that to her!?" Dawson yelled. " Accusing her of being permiscuous. Of not being faithful. This isn't you and mom..just let it go! I will not allow you to hurt Joey because you can't get over the past." Dawson stopped to take a breath. Mitch tried to get a word in.
"Dawson, all I was saying--" Dawson raked his hands through his hair before cutting him off.
"No!" He said. "No! I don't care! I know we made a mistake Dad. I know that." He looked Mitch levelly in the eyes. "But I do love her. More than I ever thought it possible to love another human being. I know it's going to be hard. I know life isn't some storyboard movie I'm scripting. Believe me, if Joey has taught me anything, she's taught me that. But I will not have you hurting her because your disappointed. In me and in yourself and your failures. I won't. I don't care if your "the father" and I'm "the son". At least I've finally grown up!" With that Dawson stormed out of the room, leaving behind a Mitch deep in thought.

Gail Leery sat next to Joey, who was sitting by the toilet, throwing up last night's dinner.
"God, I don't remember eating this much in the past year, much less the past day," Joey groaned. Gail stroked Joey's hair and held her around the shoulders. Joey turned her head to look at her.
"My mom used to hold me the exact same way when I was sick. I kinda..I kinda wish she was here." Gail looked at the young woman she was holding. Joey from across the creek. God, she had grown up so beautifully.
"Your mom would be proud, Joey," she said, handing her a Kleenex from the box sitting beside her. Joey gave a dry laugh.
"Oh, yeah. Of her daughter with morning sickness at sixteen." Gail shook her head.
"No. Of her daughter being strong enough to accept responsibilities. Of her daughter who has turned out beautiful, compassionate, and caring.." Joey stared at her.
"C'mon, I'll help you up." Gail gave Joey her hand. The two women stood up and Gail handed Joey a bottle of mouthwash. Gail sighed.
"I won't lie to you, Joey. I am not happy about this. It does not make me happy that you will be having my son's child in seven months or so." Joey looked down, but Gail placed a hand under her chin and lifted her face up.
"But if it had to be anyone," she smiled. "I'm glad it was you." Joey gave her famous half smile and Gail took her by the hand.
"Alright, let's go to Dawson's room so you can lie down and I'll bring you some Ginger Ale and Saltines. They always helped when I got morning sickness with Dawson..."

Dawson stroked Joey's free hand, while she sipped ginger ale with the other. She was lying down on Dawson's bed, while he sat beside her.
"Your mom's being amazingly okay about this," she said, setting her glass down.
"Dawson. Are you sure this is the right thing were doing?"
"Yeah," Dawson inched closer to Joey, rubbing his hand up and down her upper arm. "I'm sure. Were going to be just fine. All three of us.." He smiled and touched Joey's stomach. "I love you Josephine Marie Potter."
"Oh, gag! Josephine this!" She reached over and threw the pillow beside her at him.
"Hey watch it!" Dawson got ready to aim the pillow back at her. Joey shook her head, grinning coyly.
"Ah, ah , ah," She said. "Pregnant woman here. No throwing objects at humans carrying other human life. It's a rule."
"Uhh, you got me there. Your going to milk this pregnancy thing, aren't you? Is there a rule about kissing?" He asked innocently.
"Probably," Joey teased. "But you know us Potters. Rules and laws, damn them to hell!" Dawson laughed and gently lay beside her and kissed her.
"Mm. Why is it when I'm with you Leery all my common sense, it just flies out the window?"
"Because I'm so irresistable."
"Oh, reaallly? And what makes you so irresistable?" She smiled. He got up off the bed, confusing her. He grinned and picked up the tape that was resting on his tv.
"The fact that I have the collectors edition of "ET"." He said. He popped the video in the VCR, and as the couple lay down to watch a favorite from childhood, Joey felt free. She knew that feeling would only last until the next morning, when she'd get sick again, and then Monday when she would have to face school, and her first prenatal appointment, but for now, it was enough.
"You, you, send me flying, you send me flying
You send me flying, knocking me over
You, you, send me flying, you send me flying
