EXT: CAPESIDE DOWN TOWN. -DAY

DAWSON AND JOEY ARE WALKING HOME FROM SCHOOL. IT IS THE SAME DAY HE AND JACK HAD THEIR FISTFIGHT.

JOEY: Thanks for giving me the opportunity to straighten things out Dawson.

DAWSON: I’m not sure there is much you can say to make this better Jo.

JOEY: But your willing to let me try…. right?

DAWSON: I guess. I’m still sort of …. in shock.

JOEY: I know. It’s not as bad as you think though.

DAWSON: I hope not. I hope it’s simple and that we can get past it.

DAWSON AND JOEY ARE APPROACHING HIS HOUSE. INSTEAD HE TURNS AND WALKS DOWN TO THE BOAT DOCK BY HIS HOUSE AND SITS DOWN. JOEY JOINS HIM.

JOEY: Well I guess I should start at the beginning.

DAWSON: Seems logical.

JOEY: Do you want this explanation or not?

DAWSON: Sorry…go ahead.

JOEY: You were right about Jack….he has an agenda. Apparently one that I’m on.

DAWSON: Did you kiss him Jo?

JOEY: Yes…but it was harmless Dawson….I swear.

DAWSON: Why did you do it Jo?

JOEY: I was sort of forced into it.

DAWSON: What could Jack possibly have done to force you to kiss him?

JOEY: Dawson is it really important what he did?

DAWSON: Yes. I don’t understand how in the course of one day he could have changed us so much.

JOEY: He hasn’t changed us Dawson.

DAWSON: Jo…let’s be honest here. Jack may have forced you to kiss him….but I know you Jo and he’s getting to you.

JOEY: What are you talking about?

DAWSON: I hate admitting this to myself Jo…but I think that you liked kissing Jack.

JOEY: Has Jen been talking to you?

DAWSON: No. I reached this conclusion pretty much all on my own.

JOEY: Well your wrong Dawson. Jack’s kiss was both unwelcome and unappreciated.

DAWSON: I’d like to believe that Jo….but evidence is to the contrary.

JOEY: What evidence? What are you talking about?

DAWSON: Your adamant denial for one. Why are you so defensive about this if it meant nothing?

JOEY: Possibly because you talk like this is going to end our relationship.

DAWSON: That’s pretty undecided at this moment.

JOEY: Really? You would honestly leave me over this?

DAWSON: I don’t know.

JOEY: Oh this is unbelievable…you can’t be serious.

DAWSON: It’s not like this is the first time Joey….everytime I turn my back your liplocked with someone.

JOEY: What?

DAWSON: Well first Pacey and now Jack.

JOEY: Pacey? Dawson I can’t believe your bringing him up. I thought you got past that.

DAWSON: I thought I did too…but this new thing with Jack just made it resurface.

JOEY: So really that’s what this is about…..Pacey.

DAWSON: I just don’t understand why it happened Jo….why it always keeps happening.

JOEY: You know what Dawson….up until now I didn’t either….but now it’s become glaringly clear.

DAWSON: It has?

JOEY: Yes. I have this deep seated desire to hurt you….really bad.

DAWSON: Be serious Jo.

JOEY: What do you want me to say Dawson. I can’t explain Pacey to you….but I can tell you….it meant nothing.

DAWSON: And Jack?

JOEY: Even less…..and not my idea.

DAWSON: I know this talk is designed to make me feel better…but I think I just need some time. I’m gonna go in now….I’ll call you later.

DAWSON GET’S UP OFF THE DOCK.

JOEY: Dawson….wait….don’t do this.

DAWSON: Just some time Jo….that’s all I’m asking.

JOEY: Fine.

DAWSON WALKS AWAY FROM DOCK AND BACK INTO HIS HOUSE. JOEY CONTINUES SITTING ON THE DOCK.

FADE OUT.

NEXT DAY-CAPESIDE HIGH-DAY

JEN AND JOEY AND JACK ARE IN COOKING CLASS. JOEY IS SITTING AT THE TABLE WATCHING JACK AND JEN FLIRTING.

JEN: So….what’s your next move Romeo?

JACK: I’m not exactly sure. Andie has been kind of gumming up the works….and well frankly Dawson knew a little earlier then I would have liked him to.

JEN: So is this an aborted mission then?

JACK: This is no Apollo 13. This is just a minor setback. What about you?

JEN: I’m trying the friend’s angle….see if can get me in the door.

JACK: That’s so…..Pollyanna of you.

JEN: I don’t see you coming up with anything better. At least Dawson is still talking to me….you….you’ve got your work cut out for you.

JACK: Yeah….I guess I do….but I love a good challenge.

CUT TO DAWSON AND PACEY IN BIOLOGY CLASS.

PACEY: So how’s the eye?

DAWSON: It hurts….thanks for asking.

PACEY: So why did you hit him D?

DAWSON: Because he was asking for it…..Pacey he kissed Jo.

PACEY: I know. Andie told me.

DAWSON: Andie knows?

PACEY: Yeah….Joey told her.

DAWSON: Great so does all of Capeside know my girlfriend can’t keep her lips off of half of Capeside?

PACEY: It’s not Jo’s fault….it’s Jack…he has pretty much instigated from the beginning….Dawson….Jo is the victim here.

DAWSON: Yeah that’s what she says….but with her track record….

PACEY: Tell me I am not hearing this….you are not planning on bringing up ancient history are you?

DAWSON: It’s not that ancient Pacey.

PACEY: Only because you will not let it rest. It’s like that book you keep reading over and over to see if you missed anything. Put the book down Dawson. In fact return the damn thing to the library.

DAWSON: Well what does Andie think about you and Jo?

PACEY: I didn’t tell her. It was before us….ancient history. See where I’m going with this?

DAWSON: Yeah….I see.

CUT TO JACK AND JEN IN THE CAFETERIA. ABBY COMES UP TO THEM.

ABBY: Hey Jen….Jack. What are you two conspiring about?

JEN: Nothing.

ABBY SETS HER TRAY DOWN AT THE TABLE AND TAKES A SEAT.

JEN: Why don’t you join us Abby?

ABBY: Thanks….don’t mind if I do.

JACK: Pleasure is all ours.

ABBY: (suggestively) It could be. (winks at Jack)

JACK: Okay…..so did you come up with any ideas Jen?

ABBY: Ideas for what? Maybe I can help.

JACK: Not unless you know a sure fire way to separate our favorite couple.

ABBY: Please…is this about your favorite topic…. Dawson and Joey?

JEN: Yes.

ABBY: They’re like cement….maybe you should move on to more pliable territory.

JEN: There has to be something.

ABBY: Wait a second….I did over hear Dawson talking to Pacey about something in Bio.

JACK: What?

ABBY: Give me a minute….I didn’t fully understand so I tuned a lot of it out and listened to Kitty Wilson talk about how she and Grant got horizontal with each other on Saturday night.

JACK: Okay….that’s interesting….. But what did you hear about Dawson and Pacey’s conversation?

ABBY: Okay….I do remember something…..it had to do with Joey liplocking with half of Capeside….which I highly doubt and something about ancient history and returning a book….I think….does that help?

JACK: Yeah…in the land of the highly confused that just straightens everything out. So basically we have zip.

JEN: Wait a minute. I just remembered something. I can’t believe I forgot about this. This could solve both your problem and mine.

JACK: Do tell.

JEN: When Dawson and Joey were first struggling to get together she had a little beach fling with Pacey.

JACK: Yeah I knew about that….so.

JEN: So….if Andie finds out about it….she’ll be too preoccupied to help Joey. And then you can make your next move….which will upset Dawson….who I will step in to comfort.

JACK: Jen….you’re a genius.

ABBY: Hey….it’s was my eavesdropping that made her remember….Don’t I get a little of the credit?

JACK KISSES ABBY.

JACK: You most certainly do.

ABBY: That’s more like it.

NEXT DAY: INT-CAPESIDE HIGH

JOEY AND ANDIE ARE AT THEIR LOCKERS GATHERING BOOKS. JACK AND JEN ARE STANDING ACROSS THE HALL WITH ABBY.

JEN: Okay…it’s now or never Abby. This will only be believable coming from you.

ABBY: This is going to be so much fun.

ABBY WALKS OVER TO JOEY AND ANDIE.

ABBY: Well this is surprising.

ANDIE: What is?

ABBY: The two of you so….buddy buddy.

JOEY: What ever point it is that your trying to get to Abby….just save it.

ABBY: Well I figured that was how you would feel Joey….but maybe Andie would want to know what I’m talking about?

ANDIE: Personally Abby…..I think your poison and I’m not too terribly interested in whatever kind of trouble it is that your trying to stir up here.

ABBY: I was just trying to be a friend Andie….but if that’s the way you feel….fine. Just heed my advice and don’t turn your back on the boy stealing, make out queen you’ve decided to hang out with.

ANDIE: What are you talking about?

JOEY: Come on Andie let’s just go….she’s just trying to get a rise out of you.

ANDIE: Your right….lets go.

ABBY: You don’t have to take my work for it princess….just ask Pacey.

ANDIE: (turning back around) Pacey?

ABBY: That’s right….who’d a thunk it? Pacey and Joey getting wild together….poor Dawson was devastated.

JOEY: Why don’t you put a lid on it Abby?

ABBY: Gladly….guess you got some explaining to do.

ABBY WALKS BACK OVER TO JACK AND JEN WHO HAVE MOVED AROUND THE CORNER.

ABBY: So how was that?

JEN: Perfect. That will give Andie something else to worry about.

JACK: You we’re magnificent. I could just kiss you.

ABBY: Then what’s stopping you?

CUT TO JOEY AND ANDIE STILL STANDING AT HER LOCKER.

ANDIE: I’ve got to go Joey….I’ll talk to you later.

JOEY: Andie are you okay?

ANDIE: Fine…it’s just Abby….being Abby….right?

JOEY: (hesitates) Yeah….right.

CUT TO ENGLISH CLASS: ANDIE WALKS IN AND SEES PACEY AND TAKES A SEAT NEXT TO HIM. BUT IGNORES HIM.

PACEY: Hey McPhee.

SILENCE

PACEY: Andie? I said hi.

SILENCE CONT.

PACEY: Andie is something wrong?

ANDIE: (angry) Do you know what the one thing in the world is that I hate the most?

PACEY: No….but I have this feeling that you’re about to tell me.

ANDIE: I hate it when someone lies to me. I hate liars.

PACEY: Liars? Ok….that seems fair….but what does this have to do with your so obvious bad mood?

ANDIE: I can’t even be friends with someone who would lie to me….much less anything more than friends.

PACEY: I’m getting a bad feeling here.

ANDIE: Have you ever lied to me Pacey? And please bear in mind….I’m asking you to tell me the truth here.

PACEY: Andie. What is this about?

ANDIE: It’s a simple question Pacey.

PACEY: And one I’m sure is directed towards a certain incident…so if you could just tell me what you think I’ve lied about…it would make this so much easier.

ANDIE: The other night….when you and I were discussing our sexual histories I was completely honest with you….even though some of it was about things I’ m not proud of having done. But you….you weren’t completely honest with me were you?

PACEY: (embarrassed look) Maybe this isn’t the best place to talk about this. Can we please pick this conversation up after school….later tonight?

ANDIE: You can’t just give me a yes or no?

PACEY: Please just reserve your judgement for later….okay?

ANDIE: Fine.

CUT TO JOEY WALKING HOME FROM SCHOOL. JACK COMES UP BEHIND HER.

JACK: Walking all alone? Somehow I thought that Dawson would have lojacked you by now.

JOEY: You are so not funny….now go away.

JACK: I’m just here to keep you company.

JOEY: Thanks, but I really don’t need the companionship….so scram.

JACK: What’s the matter Jo…fraid to be all alone with me.

JOEY: Hardly….your not that irresistible….contrary to your belief.

JACK: Come on Jo…it’s just you and me now….no Dawson….let’s be honest.

JOEY: This is quite the delusional trip that you’re on Jack. I am being honest. I in no way find you attractive.

JACK: Ouch.

JOEY: Sorry…I tried to sugar coat it for you….but you just don’t listen.

JACK: Maybe because your actions….out weigh your words.

JOEY: My actions?

JACK: How can I put this delicately….I’ve been around the block a few times.

JOEY: I’m not sure that’s something I’d be bragging about.

JACK: It’s not bragging Jo…it’s fact. And in that time I’ve learned to gauge when someone enjoys kissing me…..and you enjoyed it.

JOEY: (beginning to get flustered) You wish.

JACK: I know.

JOEY: Your wrong.

JACK: Prove it.

JOEY: Give it up Jack….I am not going to let you goad me into another go at it.

JACK: You see…. You're afraid.

JOEY: I am not afraid. I just don’t feel the need to prove my lack of disinterest in you…to you. I’m sorry if I’ve wounded your male ego.

JACK: My ego’s fine…. You’re the one who seems a little tense here.

JOEY: Maybe it’s because you won’t leave me alone….when I’ve very clearly stated that I am not interested.

JACK: So why are you still here then?

JOEY: What?

JACK: Why haven’t you stomped away in disgust and anger?

JOEY: Believe me that’s my next plan of action.

JACK: Good thing because I think the sexual heat between us is getting to you.

JOEY: Oh brother.

JOEY TAKES HER CUE AND STOMPS AWAY.

INT. POLICE CAR-NIGHT.

ANDIE AND PACEY ARE SITTING IN THE FRONT SEAT OF THE CAR.

PACEY: Okay….so I think I know what your so upset about.

ANDIE: So you did lie to me then?

PACEY: Technically….no. I just sort of omitted parts of the truth.

ANDIE: Did you really think if I knew it would upset me?

PACEY: It’s kind of a big deal. I mean it’s not the average expected response to the getting to know each other’s sexual history conversation.

ANDIE: It’s not? Pacey it’s not that uncommon.

PACEY: Are you kidding me. Where did you come from? Because it’s illegal in just about every state.

ANDIE: What? Illegal how?

PACEY: Oh….I’m getting a very bad feeling here. Andie why don’t you just tell me what you think I lied about?

ANDIE: In a minute. First you tell me what you thought I thought you lied about.

PACEY: Can’t we just skip to yours.

ANDIE: No. emphatically no.

PACEY: I want to tell you. really I do. But promise me something first.

ANDIE: What’s that?

PACEY: That you will listen with an open mind….try not to judge me.

ANDIE: I’ll do my best.

PACEY: Okay. Oh boy….The thing that I omitted….in our prior conversation….was about my first time…..having sex.

ANDIE: Oh my god! Pacey was your first time with a hooker?

PACEY: What? No!

ANDIE: Then I don’t get where the illegal part comes in.

PACEY: Okay….are you gonna listen or are you going to keep interrupting?

ANDIE: Sorry. Go ahead.

PACEY: My first time was….with….this is harder than I thought.

ANDIE: Come on Pacey. Just be honest.

PACEY: Well it was with….my….my…..teacher. (breathes a sigh of relief) Your right I do feel better.

ANDIE: (shocked) Your teacher? (raising voice) Your teacher? (Yelling) YOUR TEACHER!

PACEY: (covers ears) You can stop yelling now.

ANDIE: This is unbelievable. (yells again) DO YOU HEAR ME UNBELIEVABLE!

PACEY: Yeah…I heard you….half of Capeside heard you. Please calm down.

ANDIE: (surprisingly cool) Take me home Pacey.

PACEY: Just like that? You don’t want to talk about this?

ANDIE: What is there to say?

PACEY: Ask me why? Anything. Just don’t shut me out like this.

ANDIE: Which teacher?

PACEY: Ms. Jacobs.

ANDIE: Your old English teacher? Are you the reason she left Capeside?

PACEY: Partly. Andie we both knew that it was wrong….it just happened.

ANDIE: So it was just the one time?

PACEY: Um…no. It was more than once.

ANDIE: So then how can you sit there and tell me it just….happened?

PACEY: It’s hard to explain. Ms Jacobs was someone that I really cared about. She made me feel special.

ANDIE: So basically she took advantage of you?

PACEY: No. That’s not it at all. We just sort of connected. We both wanted it to happen. Maybe for different reasons….but it was both of our doing. She didn’t seduce me or anything like that.

ANDIE: A thirty year old women and a fifteen year old boy….please Pacey just at least admit that she did something really wrong here.

PACEY: It wasn’t like that Andie. There was nothing dirty or sinister about it. I won’t tarnish it by saying that there was.

ANDIE: Then we have nothing left to discuss. I am completely disgusted by the fact that you gave yourself to a middle age woman. It makes me see you in a whole different light.

PACEY: Andie that’s not fair. I’m not asking you to clarify your first time.

ANDIE: My first time Pacey was innocent and pure. With someone my own age. I have nothing to clarify.

PACEY: Andie you had sex at fourteen. What’s so innocent about that?

ANDIE: Well for one thing it’s not illegal.

PACEY: It’s not exactly the age of consent.

ANDIE: It was experimental Pacey….I was at that age where I was curious.

PACEY: Most people talk to their parents when they’re curious.

ANDIE: I didn’t exactly have a parental figure around. Tim had just died. My mom was a basket case and my dad was AWOL.

PACEY: Andie….I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bring up those memories.

ANDIE: It’s fine. Please just take me home Pacey. I need to be alone.

PACEY: Are we cool?

ANDIE: No…not just yet. I’m exhausted and I need time to think about this.

PACEY: One more thing?

ANDIE: What?

PACEY: What was it you thought I had lied about?

ANDIE: Joey. Abby told me that you had a fling with Joey….seems kind of small potatoes now.

PACEY: Just for the record. So that you have time to digest and think about all the evils things I may have done in one fell swoop. And there will be no more secrets. I did.

ANDIE: You did? That’s just great….really great. You didn’t happen to kill anyone you haven’t told me about yet, have you?

PACEY: No….my record is homicide free.

ANDIE: Well that’s a relief.
