Disclaimer: I don't own anything associated with "Dawson's Creek." I never have, and probably never will. They belong to Kevin "The God" Williamson, Tristar, and the WB. The song "Hopelessly Devoted to You" belongs to John Farrar.

Distrubition: Post it wherever, just e-mail me. Jenny32288@aol.com.

Rating: Ummm, PG??? (How un-DC, I realize that.)

Category: If for any reason whatsoever, if even for one moment, I struck you as a P\J person, you're wrong. You are SOOOOOOO wrong.

Note:I'm just making up Dawson and Joey's middle names, okay?! And this is my first attempt at writing fanfiction, so don't be surprised if it's horrible. And when there are words in astrics, (**), it means that a character is thinking.

My Best Friend's Wedding

Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Leery and Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Phillips
cordially invite you to the wedding
of their children
Dawson Michael & Calista Jane

Joey sighs, as she reads the invitation for the umpteenth time. "If only it said Mr. Timothy Potter and Josephine Nicole, I'd be happy," she says to herself, as she enters the chapel reception area. Then she remembers something that brings her heartache:

(Set at the end of "Breaking Away." )

Joey pulls away from Dawson.

"Dawson, what was that?"

While taking her chin in his hands, he says, "I love you, Joey Potter. I always have, and always will."

"The feeling's mutual, Dawson," Joey says as she leans up to kiss him.

"Not anymore. I pray that it was, but it's not. I always thought that there was a chance that it could be, but this proves it," Joey thinks out loud, with tears welling up in her eyes. She wipes them away quickly.

"Joey!!!!!"

She turns around, and there are Dawson's parents. She thinks of how they always made such a fuss over Dawson & her when they were a couple. (That'll probably never be true, but hey, it's my story.) *Snap out of it, Joey! He's getting married! He couldn't still love me. That was 10 years ago. The feeling isn't mutual anymore.*

"Mr. Leery!!!!!! Mrs. Leery!!!!! Where's Dawson?"

"He's in the grooms room with Pacey. I suggest you'd not go in there," Gail says.

"Oh. Well, how have you been?" Joey inquires.

"Just fine. And you?" Mitch answers.

"Okay, I guess. Well, I'm going to look for Jen," Joey says. "I'll see you later."

As Joey walks away, Gail says to Mitch, "She still loves Dawson, and it's breaking her heart to see him marry Calista. I can see it in her eyes."

"And it's a shame. Dawson still loves her. They were meant for each other," Mitch says sadly.

Meanwhile, in the grooms room......

"I wonder if Joey's here yet," Dawson wondered out loud.

"I told you that you shouldn't of proposed to Calista. You're getting married, and all you can think about is Joey. You should tell her how you feel," Pacey says in an I-told-you-so voice.

"But someone as beautiful, smart, and great as Jo is would be attached. Totally over the guy she dated in high school."

"Dawson, my man, Miss Josephine Potter is head-in-the-clouds, ass-backwards, head over heels in love with you. Whether you like it or not," Pacey insisted.

Back in the reception area.......

"Jen!!!!!" Joey shouted from across the room.

"Joey!!!!!" Jen yelled back, running across the room.

Greeting her in a hug, Jen asked "How've you been?"

"Okay, I guess," Joey said with a sigh.

Shaking her head, Jen countered, "You still love Dawson, don't you?"

Cringing, Joey says, "It shows?"

Jen nods her head. "And this is breaking your heart, isn't it?"

Joey nods, almost crying. "I always seem to lose everyone good in my life."

"Hey look, there's Pacey!!!" Jen says, pointing. "PACEY!!!!!!"

Pacey runs across the room. "Joey!!!!!!! Jen!!!!!!! Long time no see!!!!"

Then he sees Joey's face: heartbroken, almost crying, everything that says shes totally head over heels for Dawson. "Jo, we need to talk outside. NOW." He takes her hand and leads her outside.

"Joey, I can tell that you still love Dawson."

"Oh God, it's that obvious to everyone?" Then she breaks down and starts to cry.

Inside the chapel.....

"Jen!!!!"

"Dawson!!!!!'"

"Where's Pacey?"

"Well, hello to you, too."

"Sorry, just where is he?"

"Outside talking to Joey."

His face brightens at the sound of her name. "Oh, okay. Thanks."

He goes to open the door, and he does so silently, only to see Joey crying.

"Joey, it's been obvious you were in love with him since we were 15 years old."

"And now he's getting married. Pacey, as you have probably already figured out, it's breaking my heart."

"Joey, wake up. He loves you-"

"How could he love me? He's getting married."

"Dawson figured since you're so beautiful, smart and great-his words, not mine-that you'd be attached. Joey, you've got to tell him. Get it over with. Stop dealing with the legacy he left you with."

"But Pacey, that's it. I left myself with that legacy. When we broke up, I knew it was a mistake."

"Joey, tell him."

"I guess I'll have to. I love him too much not to know if he feels the same way. He has my heart, Pacey. And I know he always will. He's never going to be second best. There will never be a someone else. I love Dawson Leery," Joey said, knowing that it is the truth.

"So go tell him."

Dawson finally tunes back into reality and realizes that he has to go inside or he's dead. He turns around and runs back in.

Joey walks calmly into the chapel, and starts looking for Dawson. She spots him.

"Dawson!!!!!!!!"

Dawson runs over to her and give sher a hug. "Jo!!!!" He breaks the hug. "So what's it been now? 3 years?"

"Last time I checked, yeah." *3 years too long.*

"Look Dawson......" She prepares to say what she was going to, but backed out. "Congrats and good luck." She walks off.

*God, this really is breaking her heart.*

Joey runs to the bathroom where she starts to cry. She then realizes that the radio is on.

"And here's one for all you 'Grease' fans out there, " the DJ says and turns on "Hopelessly Devoted to You."

Guess mine is not the first heart broken
my eyes are not the first to cry
I'm not the first to know there's just no gettin' over you

And though I'm just a fool who's willing to sit around
and wait for you
But baby, can't you see
there's nothing else for me to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to you

But now there's nowhere to hide
since you pushed my love aside
I'm out of my head
hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you

My head is sayin' fool forget him
My heart is sayin' don't go
Hold on 'till the end
That's what I intend to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to

But now there's nowhere to hide
since you pushed my love aside
I'm out of my head
hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you

Realizing that this song is so perfect for her at the moment, she thinks out loud,"I am hopelessly devoted to him. But he's getting married. If it makes me happy, then I have to happy for him. Then I'll truly love him." She splashes water on her face and exits the bathroom, where Pacey was waiting for her.

"Did you tell him?" Pacey asks like an excited kid on Christmas morning.

"Pacey, I couldn't. Since I really do love him, I'm going to be happy when he's happy," Joey insists.

"But Jo-he is not happy. He doesn't love Calista. In his mind, she'll never compare to you," Pacey persists.

"I'm going to deal with the fact he doesn't love me. If he did, he'd show it," Joey sighs. "And he hasn't."

"Well, this is his last chance. We have to get into the chapel."

After they take their seats in the chapel, Joey tunes out to reality. She remembers everything she helped Dawson through, she had helped him through, what they had gone through alone, and what they had gone through together. She remembers trying to cope after their breakup before college. They just figures since they were going to be in different states, (Dawson went to Harvard and Joey went to Yale,) it would only be best if they broke up. But Joey always knew it was a mistake. Then there was something that made her zoom into back into reality.

"Dawson Leery, do you take this woman, Calista Phillips as your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?" the preist says.

"I..............."

Look for Part 2 of "My Best Friend's Wedding."
