A call no one wished to get. Just not knowing, was the worst thing possible. Closure could be life changing, but it never left an unanswered question. It never made you wonder or second guess yourself. No what if, what would if been if, what if I had…? It was like a dark tunnel with no end. You kept walking further and further in searching for an end that didn't exist and you ended up wandering.

A single motion of her hand had caused her to become victim to the unanswered. A voice came out of the phone with news, but her question was never answered. It had sent her reeling to the floor in a stream of tears. The tunnel was the road to the hospital.

Maybe this there would be an end to the tunnel. Now it was the waiting for the closure that she had to endure. The dread that came with the waiting. The churning feeling it made in the pit of your stomach. The smell that filled the hospital and the bad memories mixed with the churning made an unbearable situation. She had to be strong but inside she was breaking into tiny pieces to be scattered in the endless tunnel.

The one person she needed right now wasn't here for her. He was in pieces himself probably standing in a tunnel leading to a bright light. Whatever you do don't go in, she pleaded in her mind. She wouldn't dare speak a word to any of the people surrounding her.

If she say something it'd turn into a breakdown and everything would be revealed. She looked down at her stomach. How could she bring a life into this world without half of the life that created it?

She looked at all the grim faces around her. Mr. and Mrs. Leery were standing by the coffee machine, Mrs. Leery crying on Mitch's shoulder as he patted her hair. Andie and Pacey were seated together in the corner, Pacey secretly crying in Andie's arms. Jack and Jen were trying pry information out of the nurse while Mrs. Ryan sat praying. Bessie was sitting with Alex in her lap, silent tears flowing down her cheeks. She wished she could tell them all, but they had agreed to wait till everything was set. This was supposed to be the happiest time in her life. Instead she was sitting in a hospital room awaiting closure on her ailing love.

"Are you all here for Mr. Leery?" the doctor asked. Joey nodded, no speaking she reminded herself.

"How is he? Can we see him?" Mitch questioned.

"He's in a coma. We don't know when he'll wake up or if he ever will. If he does, we can't really say what kind of affects may be left. He may be brain dead. All we know is he was in a car accident and that the paramedics brought him in. What exactly happened is still unknown, but the police should be here shortly to investigate," he replied. Joey swallowed. If she only had the power to say one thing, now was the time to say it.

"Can I see him?" she asked, quietly. The doctor pointed to the room. It was like she was being sentenced. This is your doom, to see your lover slowly waste away. She walked towards the door and slowly peeked.

Dawson lay on the bed with tubes coming out of everywhere. His arm was in a cast and a small bandage was taped to his forehead. His body was frail and his face looked pail. He had cuts and bruises everywhere. He looks so helpless, Joey thought, it couldn't be my Dawson. It was as if all the life was drown out of him. It seemed as if all his passion, love, and life were following out these tubes. He had such big dreams, Joey thought, and they were being taken away from him. He was being taken away from his family, friends, and his growing family. Joey took a few steps forward towards the bed. Drawing in a deep breath, she sat down on the bed and took Dawson's hand into hers.

"I don't know if you can hear me, but I love you so much," she said, bursting into tears. She quickly wiped away the tears that were streaming down her checks with her hand. "You have to wake up and get better Dawson, because I can't imagine my life without you in it. I can't raise this baby without you. This is the beginning of the rest of our lives together. I don't know what I'd do without your arms wrapped around me, romancing me. Without you," she paused, "life wouldn't be worth living. Fight Dawson, fight hard." Dawson didn't budge. It was like that for hours. This never-ending unknown. People came in and out all begging for him to wake up. You can't force life to become what you want it to be. You have to live in the moment and accept it, Dawson had taught her. He changed her so much in the last couple of months; they'd changed so much. They were closer then they had ever been. Love could almost been felt radiating out of them. She started to see things in a new light, out of newborn eyes. The spent every moment together and they became more intimate and loving.

Flashes of light filled his head. Images of his life flashed in his head. Happy times playing as a kid, movie nights, break ups and make-ups with Joey, that night on the beach, Thanksgiving with all his family and friends, and his last moment conscious. Suddenly the light become brighter and sounds filled his head. He started to shake uncontrollably until he was suddenly jerked upright. His eyes began to flutter open.

"Dawson?" Joey said rather than asked. He shook his head and looked around the room. He saw a beautiful girl with red worn eyes and tear stained cheeks sitting besides him. There seemed to be something familiar about her, but he couldn't place it.

"What's Dawson? Where am I?" he asked confused and bewildered.

Joey gasped and broke down in tears.

"Do you remember anything that happened before the accident?" she managed to choke out.

"Who are you?" he asked, shaking his head.

"Your love," she answered bluntly and then ran out of the room. Dawson looked on puzzled after her. He couldn't remember anything. His mind was blank. He had no memory of his life or who he was. Amnesia, he thought. It was his time to face the dark, endless tunnel wandering for an end, a closure, and answers to his past.

"Follow the girl, she's the light," he heard a voice say, but no one was in the room besides him.

What will happen to Dawson and Joey now? Will Joey ever tell anyone about the baby?

I know it was kind of short and there wasn't a lot of action, but it will get better. Please remember to send feedback to: willow0085@aol.com

It is a fanfic writer's paycheck and determines if I'll write a second part.
