Misinterpretations Part Three by: Venusian Girl

Pacey grabbed his lunch and sat down at a table to wait for his friends. There must be a full moon or something, he thought, because they've been acting really weird. His first close encounter had been this morning when a whirlwind looking suspiciously like Dawson had rushed down the hall and nearly blown him over as he walked to homeroom. His friend had raced off without even stopping to say "hi".. Pacey had seen Jen this morning in English. She was either going for the "panda look" with her mascara or she had been crying. Maybe she still hasn't got over that Dawson thing or did her grandfather go back into a coma? Pacey's eyes wandered around the cafeteria. He couldn't see his friends but he spotted Susi. Susi was this girl in his drama class whom he had fallen head over heels in love with. He hadn't told anyone about it except Dawson. Susi was gorgeous but Pacey knew she was too good for him. She was, smart, intelligent and a great actress. In fact, she had told him about this cafe she went to where actor/actress wannabes could recite big chunks of plays or films etc.

"It's great practice to be able to try things out in front of an audience who share your dreams. It's really helped boost my confidence." Susi admitted to Pacey.

This had given Pacey an idea. Last night he had gone to the cafe and done his little Braveheart routine that he used in the beauty pageant in an attempt to impress Susi. The full moon strikes again, Pacey thought, remembering what a fool he had made of himself.

Pacey's thoughts were interrupted as Joey and Jen sat down. "Greetings, Ice Queen," he smirked at Joey. Joey sighed.

"Grow up, loser."

"Guys, can you just put it on hold today? I'm feeling kinda lousy."

"Sure, Jen," Joey said meekly.

Pacey was confused. "What's up with her?" he mouthed to Joey. Joey mouthed back that Jen's grandfather had died. Pacey was surprised he hadn't known sooner. He felt bad for Jen.

"Well, that explains the panda look," he said under his breath. Joey shot him a dirty look. She hadn't heard what he had said but it was standard response to Pacey's mumblings.

"Where's D-man?" the words were hardly out Pacey's lips when Dawson approached.

"Sorry I'm late, guys, Mr. Gold was lecturing me for daydreaming in class."

Dawson a dreamer? Never! Pacey was even sarcastic in his thoughts. Pacey was unusually perceptive for a guy, you had to be to when you hung out with Dawson, the world's most oblivious dreamer. Pacey could sense the tension between Dawson and Joey from a mile off. He studied their faces. Dawson was trying desperately to avoid Joey's questioning stare. This was quite difficult since he was talking to her at the same time about sharing secrets. He was just about to butt in where he knew he was not wanted when a voice caught his attention.

Susi stood by the table. "Hi, Pacey," she said. "I just wanted to tell you that you were really good last night." Pacey could feel his face turn crimson. Time went into slow motion. The whole cafeteria cut to silence. I've always wanted the most beautiful girl in the school to say that to me but why did she have to choose now?

"Uh, thanks," he stuttered. He prayed she wouldn't inadvertently let his friends know about his performance last night. Luckily, she was called over to join her friends at a table and so his secret was safe for now.
