True Love Part 9 by: Becci

The pair arrived at Joey's apartment by about 3pm that afternoon. Neither of them were really tired from their flight, but Dawson offered to carry her bags up the staircase to her floor. When they got to floor six, Joey unlocked the door and opened it slowly. She turned and gave Dawson a loving kiss, and he put the bags down on the floor. They moved into the room, and he felt for a light switch. He flicked it on, and all of a sudden came a shout. "Welcome home!"

Joey began to laugh, and pulled away from Dawson. To her surprise, stood in her apartment were Gail, Mitch, Bessie, Bodie, Alex, Ben and Kate. Kate immediately ran up to Joey, and Joey picked her up and swung her on her hip. "Oh my God! What are you all doing here?" she asked, whilst hugging her sister.

"Well, Dawson phoned us incredibly early this morning and told us to be here to welcome you back," Gail said. "And I'm glad he did. Honey, you look wonderful," she said, making Joey blush before she hugged her.

"Here, here," Mitch said, making his way toward her for a hug. Joey put her niece down carefully before turning around to Dawson, who was hugging his mother.

"Dawson? What's going on?" she said, with her hands on her hips.

Dawson smiled and said "Nothing. I just thought it'd be nice for everyone to catch up with each other. Plus, my parents wanted to see you." Joey turned to her sister and smiled. "How long have you been here? I normally tidy it up before you come over." Bessie smiled back at her sister, noticing how happy she looked. "I gathered. I'm rather worried about the amount of alcoholic beverages you seem to have about the place." Joey blushed with embarrassment. "Speaking of drinks, sit down please. Would anyone like anything?" Joey walked into the kitchen area, and began preparing drinks for everyone and pouring some potato chips into bowls. Dawson called out to her "Jo? Where shall I put your bags?"

Joey paused for a moment, and then said "In my bedroom might be a good idea." Bodie stood up in order to help Dawson, and they carried the bags through to the room.

A few minutes later, the six adults and three children were sat comfortably, talking. Joey told his parents all about the past ten years, and Dawson told Bessie and Bodie all about their trip to England.

After a while, they began to talk as one group, whilst the kids played together. "So, we take it you two are together now?" Bessie asked, although they knew the answer. "Yup. You could say that," Joey replied.

She was sat next to Dawson, who slipped his arm around her waist. His palms were starting to get sweaty. He knew he had to say it soon, otherwise the moment would be lost forever. He cleared his throat nervously, then began. "Actually Joey, there's one more surprise for you. I hope it'll be a good one." He reached into his coat pocket, and pulled out a jewelry box. Bessie and Gail exchanged radiant smiles at this point. They had both guessed what would happen next. "Joey, I want to ask you a question. You know I love you, and I think you love me too. I'm certain that there's no one out there that's better for me than you. I've tried to find one, but I've failed. I've found the one person I want to share my life with." He opened the box to reveal a simple yet beautiful diamond ring. It was perfect for Joey. "Would you do me the greatest honor possible and become my wife?"

Joey's eyes were misted up with tears as she looked into Dawson's deep, expressive eyes. Without a hesitation, she nodded, and kissed him. The adults all clapped at them, and the children joined in, although they didn't understand what was going on. When they broke apart, Dawson slipped the ring onto her finger. Then, they kissed once more. After a few moments, Mitch spoke. "OK, that's enough. You spent years moaning at your mother and I for doing the same." Dawson and Joey broke apart, and smiled. Then, she turned around and gave Bessie a big hug. Tears of happiness rolled down the cheeks of both of the women. Then, Gail joined in the hug. She had always considered Joey her surrogate daughter, as well as the best friend of her son. She couldn't think of anyone she'd rather have as a daughter-in-law.

A few hours later, the guests were leaving. Dawson showed his parents out, and as his dad left, he said "So, Dawson, you're no longer a virgin?" Dawson looked down at the ground shyly. "Yeah," he mumbled.

"Congratulations," Mitch said smiling. "I told you it would happen one day." With that, he left the apartment. Dawson shut the door and span round to see Joey stood facing him about 20 meters away. She immediately ran towards him, and jumped up into his arms, kissing him. "I love you so much, Dawson," she said finally. Dawson paused for a second before carrying her in both arms into her bedroom, and carefully placing her on the bed. He lay down beside her and they kissed. They ere engaged to be married.

The next morning, Joey laid in bed, not moving. She didn't want to disturb Dawson. It had taken her a few moments to realize that yesterdays events had actually happened. However, the band on her finger confirmed it. She was just daydreaming about her wonderful fiancé, when she heard a sniff from behind her. She rolled over and saw that Dawson's eyes were wide awake. "Did you just sniff my hair?" she asked, amazed. Dawson flushed a light pink shade. "I thought you were still sleeping," he mumbled. Joey's fake frown turned into a happy grin. "I don't mind," she said cheerfully, "it just makes me wonder what else you do when I'm asleep." He took a deep breath, and explained to her. "I mostly watch you, it's just that I love everything about you, especially the scent of your hair." Joey rewarded this clever statement with akiss.
