Author's Note: The writing is a little corny, but I was in that kind of a mood, so don't get angry.
Crash Into Me
Too long ago, too long apart
she couldn't wait another day for
the captain of her heart.
Double, ‘Captain of Her Heart'
As time went by, Joey and Andrew became good friends and her and Dawson became something else. What that was she didn't know because she couldn't make anything of their relationship. Instead of being cold and distant, Dawson was sad and distant. Numerous times Joey had asked Jen what was going on, and even though she knew Jen knew something, she couldn't pry it out of her. She would only shrug and change the subject. After that Saturday night at the cafe three weeks ago, Andrew had begun to sit with Joey during lunch. When Dawson was there- which was now rare- he would shoot looks at Andrew and barely say anything. This left Joey concerned about him, but also hurt with the realization that she couldn't find out was wrong because he wouldn't talk to her. She was telling all of this to Drew as he walked her to the Icehouse.
"I'm sorry I've been unloading my problems on you."
He smiled at her. "No problem, that's what a friend does, listen to problems."
"It's been a while and I'm still not over Dawson. I tried to forget about him but detaching him from my mind is like taking the fish from the sea. If I were a normal teenage girl, I would be on to the next crush of the week by now."
"That's the thing," Andrew said as they stopped walking, "you're not the normal teenage girl."
" Like I don't know, how many people's fathers are in jail for trafficking that natural product ‘Mary Jane'."
"That's not what I meant, I mean you're special." *very special to me,* he said internaly and dismised the thought from his mind.
She looked at him in surprise and kissed his cheek, "thank you, Andrew."
He blushed and there was and there was an awkward moment of silence as they began to walk again.
"Look," she started to say, "I know how Dawson feels and I can accept it. I'm only beginning to learn to live without him and it really hurts, but you..................." Joey looked at him with a sideways glance. "...........you have been the saving grace of me."
He shrugged, "what can I say, I have that effect on women."
Joey jabbed him in the ribs and they went on their way enjoying their new found friendship.
Dawson ran that night through his head as he laid down, switched on his stereo, and closed his eyes. He wondered where she was right now and who she was with.
"You look like hell, Joey."
She gave him a look, " nice greeting, where did you get that from ‘101 ways to be a jackass'."
"Sorry it's just that I know why you look like that and so do you. Joey you need to talk to him."
"No way, next suggestion." She said too quickly.
"You miss him and from the way he looks at you he misses you too. So just stop being so pigheaded."
She said nothing, "Joey, you can't move on unless you have closure about that night and the two of you can't be friends again if you don't talk. So get up off your ass and go talk to Dawson."
Joey looked down at the table she was sitting at. "He doesn't want to talk to me, look at the way he's acting towards me. Besides I still have an hour left on my shift."
"No excuses, I'll finish your shift. So go, now!"
Joey thought and then smiled at Andrew as she kissed him for the second
time that day and ran off tossing a thank you over her shoulder.
"Joey," he spoke ever so softly.
There they stood silently looking at each other remembering the last time they were here together. All of Joey's feelings came back and she knew that just like that night, she was in love with him. She had never stopped, *and never will.* She moved towards him as he sat up and broke the silence.
"Dawson, we need to talk................"
*This is my chance* he thought.
" I know Joey, I have to tell you something"
"If it's that you don't love me Dawson, I know that. Remember that-"
"Shut up Joey," Dawson said without malice, "just listen to me."
He took a deep breath. "I lied to you that night, I couldn't tell you the way that I feel."
Joey stepped back as he stood to face her, "No, Dawson. You can't do this. You can't tell me something and take it back!"
"Joey listen to me.................."
She just shook her head, " life isn't a movie where you can take it back and expect everyone to end up happy."
"That's not fair."
"Life isn't fair Dawson and if somebody told you that I'd like to know how their wires got crossed." She paused, "you said it was a mistake and maybe it was. Look at what it did to our friendship."
"But Joey, I'm in love with you."
Joey sucked in her breath and everything around her began to fall away. For the first time she noticed the radio was on and what was playing.
You've got your ball
you've got your chain
tied to me tight tie me up again
Who's got their claws
in you my friend
Into your heart I'll beat again
"No," she spoke softly, "don't say something you may regret."
Dawson moved closer until they were in the same position as that night.
"What I regret is not telling you sooner."
He caressed her face with his hands and she closed her eyes as she fell against him.
Sweet like candy to my soul
sweet you rock
and sweet you roll
Lost for you I'm so lost for you
Touch your lips just so I know
In your eyes, love, it glows, so
I'm bare-boned and crazy for you
Dawson pulled her slightly away and did what he had been waiting so long to do. He kissed her and for that night, for that moment there was only them.
If I've gone overboard
Then I'm begging you
To forgive me
In my haste
When I'm holding you so girl....................
Close to me
Oh and you come crash
and I come into you
The song was ‘Crash into Me' by the Dave Matthews Band. I was listening to it and got inspired. Anyway send some feedback because I'm not sure whether or not to continue the series or how to do it.
